Welcome to Whale & Star.

Whale & Star started in 1998 as part of the studio of Enrique Martínez Celaya.

The whale and the star stand for vastness of scope and guidance, principles embodied in our regard
for intellectual access, content over markets and the attention to detail found in the best artists’ books.
Our list is divided into four series, Monographs, Artists and Writers, Working Book and Whale and each
year we expand it with a few titles in the areas of art, poetry, art practice and critical theory.

Our books can be found at bookstores, libraries, schools, universities and museums
throughout the world and are distributed by the University of Nebraska Press.

In addition to our publications, we are interested in commissioning graphic and sculpture editions
and encouraging collaborations between artists and writers.

We are pleased to receive query letters
for books and projects. Queries should include a cover letter,
author background and publication history, a detailed synopsis of the 
proposed work, and a sample
chapter or section. Please indicate if the work is being simultaneously 
submitted. A small percentage
of outside works proposed are accepted. 

If you do submit a work for consideration, please be patient.
We aim to respond to proposals 
within a month, but it often takes longer.
